Heyloooooo (:
We are working hard on editing our Thriller footage, and planning when we are to film one shot which we need for the start of our opening. At the moment, we are struggling to think of ideas for our credit/titles. As our opening is reletively different itself, we are hoping to produce some titles which will run with the same theme, therefore not producing them on the mac's when editing.
We have a few ideas so far:
> Paper floating on water (we orginally saw this idea in one of Miss Mann's students opening, and thought it was very effective)
> Chalk writing on slate, the speed of this would be increased to show a quick hand movement writing down the directors etcc.
As you can see we havent had many ideas as yet, but we are open to suggestions (:

Heyloooo
So we went to Southwold on Saturday to shoot our thriller :)
Heres the low down:
Weather: We were really lucky with the weather because it was sun shiney and perfect for the whole day (although this did create a few problems with lighting). It has poured it down all the way up in the car so we were really starting to worry. But it brightened up for us :):)
Good times: Both Vicky and Sarah were great, even though we made Sarah sit in a t shirt in the freezing cold and scrape at the sand. We managed to get the sound of waves and beachiness really clearly on the camera, it still needs a bit of sorting out but generally sound was good and not too windy.
Here is Sarah looking windswept and interesting :)
Us setting up a shot :):)
Bad times: Even though the weather was great it did cause a few problems with lighting. We were only able to shoot from one direction because of the sunlight and despite out best efforts we have noticed some shadow problems with some of our footage. (Poor Lorna's D.I.Y light reflector didn't get much of a look-in). Never the less we are going to try and sort it out as in some of these shots, theyre going to be darker anyway.

Me and Lornas D.I.Y light reflector :)

Thats all for now, we have a little video message that will be uploaded soon that was recorded on the day of shooting.
Bye bye love youuu

Target Audience
The target audience for Thriller depends on the sub-genre of each individual film. Many Thrillers such a No Country For Old Men and Silence Of The Lambs have high age ratings, this means that their target audience is probably a young male adults.
Some Thrillers can be more crime-based, such as Memento(which we have studied & posted about!) and Se7en, which target a more mature audience, because of their complicated plots.
For our Thriller film we have a sub-genre of psychological Thriller, after looking at the results of our poll, we are glad to have chosen this sub-genre, as it seemed very popular.

wishee washee
With our day of filming fastly approaching we thought it would advisable to check out information on what time the tide will be high and low, as we will be spending most of the day on the beach we will need to know roughly when the sea might be at our feet!
So here's the table/graph we are relying on!
Looking at the table, the tide will be getting high at around 3:20 which is great for us because we should be all done by then! - and it will be getting dark early.
Anyway, that's all from me!
Roll on saturday, im looking forward to it :)

Focus Pull
When we film the scene in the bedroom we intend on using a focus pull to focus in on the photoframe that will be on the bed side table with an image of the two characters from a previous time and showing their friendship. We decided to do a test shot before christmas, it took us a little while to get right and a bit of advice from Mr. M but we managed it in the end, and are looking forward to using it again in our opening!
here it is :)
Until next time! xxxx

Characters
There are two main characters in our opening, one is going to be more significant than the other.
Our first character who is going to be appearing in the majority of the opening is going to be played by Sarah. Her character is going to be quite enigmatic as her flashbacks reveal her darker side, which she appears to be quite confused about aswell. In a psychological thriller characters such as this are often portrayed, such as Leonard in Memento. Their own confusion adds to the questions asked by the audience. In her flashbacks she is the best friend of our second character, however something happens to this character but we don't reveal how, as we made that mistake with our first storyboard draft.
Our second character is ther best friend of Sarah's character, and will be played by Vicky. She is going to be appearing in the flashbacks leading up to a tension building incident. She is also going to appear in a photo we are using in a shot to foreshadow their relationship. We're going to use a focus pull in this shot, we will put up a test shot which we made the other week in the next post.

Final Ideas
We've changed the story a bit since before Christmas as we felt our initial idea was too final and was too much like a whole story in 2 minutes with a beginning, middle and end. Instead of having our main character walk into the sea, we are going to use the same setting for two different time periods. The first time period will be in the present with the main character on the beach, clearly confused as to why she's there. The second will be made up of flashbacks leading up to why she is at the beach. We're planning on using two different colours when editing to show the difference in both time and mood, much like Memento. We don't want to give too much away with the flashbacks so we're going to edit them to make them rapid cuts which imply that the main character has killed her friend.
The flashbacks are going to be split into two costumes for our main character, one for happier times (colourful, bright clothes and comfortable) and then dark clothes for the shots where she kills her friend which mirror her mood. In the present day setting she will be wearing greys and whites and less clothing to show her blank state of mind and to show how she is feeling uncomfortable in contrast to those happy times.
The storyboards are coming later but we have to go now byeeeeeeeeee!!!

Filming Day Proposal
We are planning on filming, next saturday 17th, in Southwold.
Once again we have gone back to the beach idea. We do have another location to film at, within a house, but we plan to shoot these shots, one evening after school.
The weather forcast in Southwold for the 17th, is 6 or 7 degrees celsius, with cloudy skies, and a slight chance of rain. Lets hope we get a dry day!! byeee x
