New Ideas...

Ok, so we decided that the whole voyeurism idea had been done to death so had some new/old ideas! Keeping our original idea of the beach setting we decided to abandon the stalker thing and go with a storyline based around the sea and things lost at sea. The general storyline is going to be a mysterious girl on the beach looking out to sea and having flashbacks of a male character (most likely to be a boyfriend/husband character) and although they are going to be unclear, they're going to point towards the male being lost at sea. The flashbacks are going to be kind of erratic and crazy and creepy whereas the scenes set on the beach are going to be creepy in a very still, eerily creepy way. The storyboard isn't finished yet but should be finished and up on the blog at the start of next term. The scenes on the beach are going to feature heightened diegetic sound like waves crashing and birds cheeping ( i couldnt think of a describing word to describe the noise birds make). The final shot is going to be of the female character walking into the sea. So yeah theres an update of our ideas. We've got lots more ideas about shot types and stuff but one of us will update on that later. Bye Bye xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Preliminary task :)

Preliminary Task :)

This is our Preliminary Task, we had to include a person walking into a room through a door (which needed a continuity edit) and sitting down and having a conversation with someone. We had to include features like shot reverse shot, a tracking shot and a continuity edit.

Comments are very welcome :) Thankyouuuuuu

Alfred Hitchcock

I did a little bit of research into thriller directors, this is one of the directors i looked at!

Alfred Hitchcock is perhaps Britains most famous and highly regarded film director, but he is best known for his work when he left the country to go to Hollywood!
His most notorious films are Vertigo, Psycho and The Birds, he was known as the 'master of suspense'.
He believed that cinema was a visual medium for him dialogue and sound should remain secondary to the image in telling the story, when people think of Hitchcock they tend to remember images such as the shower scene from Psycho rather then the lines of dialogue!
classic Hitchcock films normally have the plot of an innnocent protagonist falsely accused of a crime and becomes involved in a web of intrigue.

By researching Hitchcock it can give us a few ideas, knowing he is the 'master of suspense' we can look at his films and see if we can build any ideas from him on how to build suspense for our thriller!!!!!

Helllllo there.

Okay so, for our thriller opening we really want to use shallow/deep focus, but first we're going to have to experiment with using the manual focus on the cameras! - but it will be fun!
In class we looked at the open of 'The Hole', which we thought is a really effective opening regarding the thriller genre, well...up until she screams down the phone (major cringe! We won't be doing that in our thriller...)

But anyway, here are a couple of pictures of the shallow/deep focus in the opening that we thought work well :)

^^^^^^^ skills right there haha :)

That is all for now, Until next time!
Toooooodles. xoxo

Costume :)

We watched the Thriller 'Léon' in class, directed by Luc Besson(1994) We were drawn into the influential role of the glasses Leon was wearing within the opening scene. The photo on the right(above) is from 'Secret Window' directed by David Koepp(2004) Here we see Mort Rainey having the same influence, with the glasses he wears. We think it would be effective to have a character with this costume, imposing the same confusing quality that both of these characters hold. Furthermore by using extreme close ups of their appearance, we hope to in turn create suspense.

Not the most riveting post ever! But they'll get better. Promise :)

Hey Guys it's Hannah and Lorna!

This is just a general first post to see if we're doing it right haha! Right our intital ideas were that we wanted to try out shooting on the beach in maybe Great Yarmouth or somewhere with beach huts. We were following ideas about voyeurism and stalkers and shizz so we thought in between the beach huts would be a good place for point of view shots and generally stalker type stuff and that in the winter the beach would be isolated and quite creepy.

But as we started talking more about our narrative we kind of went off the idea. At the moment we're thinking about using a phone box
as a main setting and cross cutting between a victim in the phonebox and a stalker in a different setting (maybe surrounded by creepy photographs etc) using extreme close ups to hide their identity (like when we first meet Leon in 'Leon' tee hee lol )
Right that's all folks! Love youuuuuuuuu
