The target audience for Thriller depends on the sub-genre of each individual film. Many Thrillers such a No Country For Old Men and Silence Of The Lambs have high age ratings, this means that their target audience is probably a young male adults.
Some Thrillers can be more crime-based, such as Memento(which we have studied & posted about!) and Se7en, which target a more mature audience, because of their complicated plots.
For our Thriller film we have a sub-genre of psychological Thriller, after looking at the results of our poll, we are glad to have chosen this sub-genre, as it seemed very popular.

Well done, Jessicaa - what sort of a rating do you think your Thriller would attract and why?
Can you think of any reason why a studio might put pressure on a director to 'hit' a certain rating?
You say No Country for Old Men would attract young males yet they can't be that young, right? I think it was an R18. The other thing to consider for both those films is that they were based on Literature. Consequently there is often an inbuilt audience in terms of people who have read the book and are curious to see the film adaptation. Good blogging you guys!
Thank you for your comment Mr. M - The opening to our Thriller has psychological elements, which makes it slightly disturbing (or at least we hope it will be when it’s finished!) I think ours would be a R15, because if we were to make it into a full film, the storyline may include parts which are related to violence and anger. Answering your - studio might put pressure on a director question. I think that a rating can apply to its 'legal' audience, and yet it can also entice a younger audience into watching. For example, Saw is rated 18 in the UK, and im pretty sure most people my age watched it within the first few years that it was released on DVD, because it seemed that placing a higher rating on a DVD, made it interesting, and slightly rebellious to watch. Therefore, studio's would make more money from the sales of DVD's. The copy I have of No Country For Old Men is a R15, which would attract young males, and this is further complimented by its Action sub-genre, which itself brings a stereotypically young male audience. Yeah, I haven’t read the book, probably should have done that first! Jessicaa (:
